Eight months on from our Insights Discovery training with The Amber Group and I can already see what a massive impact it has had on us all.
We no longer take a ‘one-size-fits-all’ approach to managing people. Instead, we use the Insights Discovery four-colour system to recognise the strengths and potential weaknesses of our own management style and to better adapt to the management preferences of our team members. As a result, we have seen a real uplift in team morale, greater levels of engagement and a 6% increase in productivity across the Contact Centre.
As a leadership team , we have also seen our relationships with each other improve. We are better equipped to leverage one another’s strengths, challenge each other constructively and reach better decisions more quickly.
Our sincere thanks to The Amber Group. You have given us the tools to help make our team better.

Head of CPCC – UK Digital & Retail

At the heart of Insights Discovery lies a simple and memorable four-colour model: Fiery Red, Sunshine Yellow, Earth Green and Cool Blue. Each colour represents a different set of behavioural preferences. Everyone has all four colour energies but they prefer or are more comfortable with some over others. It’s this unique blend that determines how and why people behave the way they do.
Insights Discovery is a personality profiling and learning system based on the psychology of Carl Jung. It helps individuals better understand themselves and others, communicate more effectively, build stronger stakeholder relationships and perform at their best.

Identifying our unique blend of the colour energies helps deepen our self-awareness by better understanding our interaction preferences, communication style, likely strengths and weaknesses and the value we bring to the team.
The same common language of colour also allows us to better understanding our colleagues, clients and other stakeholders, and gives us the tools to adapt our interactions for more successful outcomes.
Teams and organisations that use Insights Discovery benefit from improved communication, deeper collaboration, stronger relationships, better leadership and higher performance.
Whether you’re an individual seeking personal development; part of a team (virtual or otherwise); a manager or a leader, Discovery can enhance self-awareness, build your understanding of others and give you the interaction skills required to achieve your goals.
The true value of Insights Discovery lies in the lasting impact it delivers back in the workplace. High performing teams don’t happen by chance and that’s why we tailor our Insights Discovery workshops to the specific outcomes you want to see back in the workplace. Some of the most common challenges we address include:

Improve Communication:
Provide a common language that removes misunderstanding and helps conversations become clearer, faster and more productive.
Strengthen Team Dynamics:
Build trust, promote collaboration and replace personality clashes with understanding, empathy and productive conversations.
Management and Leadership Development:
Equipping managers and leaders with the skills to engage and influence their teams effectively.
Strengthen Client and Stakeholder Relationships:
Provide understanding of how to adapt to and connect with different client personalities, supporting client retention, advocacy and growth.
Customer Service and Account Management:
Deepen understanding of personal selling style, how to adapt to buyer preferences and how to develop long lasting customer relationships.
Develop Emotional Intelligence:
Enhance empathy, self-control and adaptability in communication and interactions.
Support Change and Integration:
Build understanding of why individuals respond differently to change and how to support each personality through the change process.
Workplace Coaching:
Provide powerful insight to support self-coaching and coaching interactions with team members.

We are a unique blend of all four colour energies. Our potential lies in how we choose to use them.
Each colour energy has perceived strengths and possible weaknesses.
It simply gives us the tools to develop and adapt when and if we want to.
Don’t get hung up if you disagree with certain elements. Testing these areas with people who know you well can help us understand what truth there may or may not be in every observation.
It is not a measure of skill, intelligence or likely achievement.
There are so many factors that affect how we as humans function and perform. Always be willing to look beyond Discovery at what others factors might be in play in any given situation.
The Amber Group has helped organisations across multiple sectors develop stronger leaders, more connected teams and more effective communicators through practical, engaging Insights Discovery workshops.
Workshops are delivered by a licensed Insights Discovery Practitioner with the knowledge to apply the methodology accurately and effectively.
The Amber Group brings more than 25 years’ experience in leadership, communication, coaching and team development.
Every session can be shaped around the organisation’s objectives, culture, challenges and team dynamics.
Workshops are practical, interactive and designed to encourage participation, reflection and honest discussion.
The learning is connected to real situations, helping participants improve communication, collaboration, leadership and conflict management.
We don’t see our workshops as a ‘one-and-done’ service. Instead, we see them as the start of an ongoing, value-driven relationship where learning is continuous and the “colour language” actually sticks to your company culture. We achieve this by giving our clients access to a variety of ongoing learning opportunities including follow-up clinics to refresh content; deeper-dive sessions on specific Insights Discovery applications; one-to-one Insights Discovery coaching to help individuals tackle specific challenges or opportunities and access to our free monthly newsletter covering all things Insights Discovery.

In Insights Discovery, these are more accurately described as colour energies: Fiery Red, Sunshine Yellow, Earth Green and Cool Blue. They are not fixed personality types. Everyone has access to all four colour energies, but we may prefer, show or rely on some more than others.
Workshops can be delivered in half-day or full-day formats depending on your requirements. Follow-up workshops, deep-dive sessions and one-to-one coaching can also be used to extend the learning.
There is no set timeframe for repeating a workshop. Teams often revisit Insights Discovery when new people join, roles change or they want to deepen their understanding and application of the model.
Participants can access additional learning resources from The Amber Group to help keep the learning alive. These include follow-up workshops, one-to-one coaching, deep-dive clinics and facilitated sessions. Participants can also subscribe to The Discovery Digest for practical tips, learning guides, thought pieces and Insights Discovery updates.

Insights Discovery Profiles are usually very accurate. While it is impossible for any profiling tool to be ‘perfect’, Discovery Profiles are drawn from an Evaluator capturing answers to one hundred carefully curated questions. Provided the individual provides honest responses, the profile will be highly accurate.

Yes. Insights Discovery is a psychometrically validated personality assessment. Its evaluator has been independently tested for reliability and validity by the British Psychological Society (BPS) Psychological Testing Centre (PTC) demonstrating that it measures personality preferences consistently and accurately.
Insights Discovery was created by Andi Lothian MBE, together with his son Andy Lothian, who founded Insights Learning & Development Ltd in Dundee, Scotland, in 1993. The model was developed from the psychological theories of Carl Gustav Jung and the work of Jungian analyst Dr Jolande Jacobi, translating complex personality theory into the accessible four-colour model used today.

Neither model is universally “better”—they simply have different strengths. DISC is often valued for its simplicity and ease of learning, making it an excellent introduction to behavioural preferences. Insights Discovery tends to provide a deeper, more nuanced understanding of personality and is particularly well suited to leadership development, coaching, executive teams and sustained organisational development.
Many organisations choose Insights Discovery when they want more than a behavioural profile – they want a practical development framework that supports communication, collaboration, leadership and culture over the long term
Yes. In fact profiles can include an interview chapter that helps the interviewer assess a candidate’s self-awareness and their ability to adapt to situations that may be outside of their natural comfort zone. As with all profiling tools, they should be used to support the selection process and not be the sole reason for a selection decision.
